CMYK - A world of Colour - Amsterdam Tulips

Images that come to mind when thinking of the Netherlands are windmills, clogs, and cheese. But probably the most sublime are images of the Netherlands most famous flower the tulip.

Arriving in Holland in the 16th century, tulips became characteristic with the wealthy and famous. A sign of prestige and social standing was a garden full of expensive tulips. Demand for tulip bulbs in the 17th century in the Netherlands reached such a peak that extortionate prices were charged for a single tulip bulb.

In late March, April and early May the Dutch tulip fields are ablaze with colour. By the time the spring season is in full swing the fields just outside Amsterdam are swathed in red, pink, orange and yellow blooms.
